The Lord stood with me
When all else failed
And above it all He lifted me
As my loneliness paled.

The Lord strengthened me
And life alone I did not face
Yes, the Lord strengthened me
And gave me His grace.

O, the loneliness of it all
And the pain of it, too,
But the Lord strengthened me
And He helped see me through!

Those days were sad
And full of much dread
But the Lord stood with me
And helped me look ahead.

"Backward," He said,
"I will never go
Things look bad back there
And they make you feel so low."

"If you want to go with Me
You must not look behind
Because back there," He said,
"My blessings you will not find."

So forward He and I went together
And I am not alone anymore
The Lord stood with me
And the past I no longer bore.
